BARCELONA SUBURBAN AND REGIONAL SERVICES OF CATALONIA

 

Xpress Refund Conditions

Xpress Refund is an exclusive service for passengers on Barcelona suburban and regional services under the jurisdiction the Government of Catalonia, in accordance with Clause 13, point 3 of the General Terms and Conditions Governing the Use of the Suburban and Regional Rail Services of Catalonia. Effective as of 28 February 2013.

Features

Passengers on the Barcelona suburban and regional railway services under the jurisdiction of the Government of Catalonia can choose to receive an Xpress Refund ticket for the same category of train when their train arrives at its destination over 15 minutes late, provided that the delay is attributable to the operation of the railway itself.

 

Application

An Xpress Refund can be requested if all of the following conditions are met at the end of the trip:

  1. The train on which the trip was taken arrived over 15 minutes late to the passenger’s destination station.
  2. The passenger presents the corresponding ticket validated at the origin.

 

 

Exclusions

Not applicable to delays caused by timetable changes related to railway operations (construction work, etc.), provided that the changes have been announced far enough in advance.

Does not apply in the event of force majeure unrelated to railway operations:

  • Natural disasters, very severe or exceptional weather conditions, or fires originating outside of the facilities or premises that nonetheless affect railway operations.
  • Strikes or work stoppages, excluding minimum services.
  • Terrorist threats, sabotage of vehicles or facilities, demonstrations or civil disorder.
  • Interruption of service due to court, government or police order.
  • Obstruction of the track by people, animals, vehicles or objects.
  • Evacuation or treatment of people who have fallen ill.
  • Unjustified activation of alarm mechanisms by unauthorized persons.

 

 

Ticket refund and use

  • The passenger will be provided an Xpress Refund ticket valid for the Barcelona suburban service (a Renfe or integrated ATM ticket) or the regional services.
  • The ticket is valid for one trip on the same route and, in the case of regional services, the same category of train, as the trip affected by delays.
  • Valid for: 30 calendar days.
  • Use of Xpress Refund requires validation prior to boarding the train. Failure to meet this requirement will lead to the passenger being deprived of the ticket.
  •  For Regional services only:
    • Xpress Refund tickets are not valid by themselves and must be accompanied by the original ticket that was refunded. Both will have the same document number.
    • Failure to meet this requirement will lead to the passenger being deprived of the ticket.
 

How to request an Xpress Refund on the Barcelona suburban service. Lines R1, R2, R3 (Barcelona-Sant Quirze de Besora), R4, R7 and R8

  • The passenger may request a refund immediately following the train’s arrival at the passenger’s final destination.
  • The station will verify that the refund conditions are met.
  • Within a maximum period of 24 hours after the train’s arrival at the passenger’s final destination and only in the case of unstaffed stations, the request may also be submitted using the form available on this page. This request must be accompanied by a copy of both sides of the used ticket.
  • The Xpress Refund does not apply to tickets purchased en route, with or without penalty, originating from a station where tickets are sold.

 

 

How to request an Xpress Refund on the Regional services. Lines R3 (La Farga de Bebié-Puigcerdà), R11, R12, R13, R14, R15 and R16

Refunds may be requested at any of the main stations of the Regional Services of Catalonia network, according to the following list:

How to request an Xpress Refund on the Camp de Tarragona suburban service. Lines RT1 and RT2

Refunds may be requested at any of the main stations of the Camp de Tarragona suburban service network, according to the following list:

How to request an Xpress Refund on the Lleida suburban service.

Refunds may be requested at any of the main stations of the Lleida suburban service network, according to the following list: Lleida-Pirineus

• The station will verify that the refund conditions are met.


• Requesting period: from noon on the first working day (Monday through Friday) following the date on which the delay occurred up to and including the fifteenth calendar day following the said date.


• Exclusively in the case of stations not included on this list, the request may be submitted using the form available on this page.


 

Other conditions

  • The Xpress Refund never involves a cash refund of the fare paid by the passenger.
  • It is not available in addition to other compensation provided for by law.
  • If the customer prefers to receive the amount of the compensation in cash, this is subject to the GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE USE OF THE SUBURBAN AND REGIONAL RAIL SERVICES OF CATALONIA and the request must be made through the usual channels.
  • The Xpress Refund applies equally to any single- or multiple-trip transport ticket integrated in the ATM fare system or specific to Renfe Rodalies.
