The concept and development of the technical and construction project of the series 447 took place in 1991 and 1992. These trains, conceived and designed by CAF in the mechanics and auxiliary equipment and by Siemens in the electrical equipment of control and power were built by ADtranz, CAF, Geca and Siemens.
The trains of the 470 series are the result of the remodelling of the 440 series, which were modernized both inside and outside during the nineteen nineties. The most significant change was the installation of air conditioning and a new interior design, thanks to the elimination of separating walls inside each carriage in order to achieve a single open space.
The new 449 series is an adaptation of the Civia commuter train in use for medium distance services which has been running since 2008.
Built between 1987 and 1991, the 448 series is the third generation of Renfe electric trains. These trains provide significant improvements with regards to the previous models and can travel at 160 km/h.
